This Palace is considered one of modern Azerbaijan’s most prized pieces of architecture. Built in 1763 as the summer residence to Sheki’s ruling family, it was built on a hill, above the city and surrounded by gardens and fortified walls.
The palace is now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site and hosts six rooms over the two floors. The 36 meter exterior facade is covered with exquisite patterns, peacocks and Islam-inspired motifs in dark blue, turquoise and ochre tiles.
The interior features stained glass in wooden window frames - a local variety known as Shebeke – without using nails or glue. The rooms are covered with paintings depicting folk stories and nature. Any remaining surfaces have been filled with floral tile panels and mosaics.
